PTR notes change: Reason for PI changes unveiled!

Power Infusion: Infuses the target with power, increasing their spell haste by 20% and reducing the mana cost of all spells by 20%. Lasts for 15 seconds. This will not stack with other haste effects, such as Heroism, Bloodlust, or Icy Veins.
So, the obvious reason for the changes to PI (and Icy veyns that is): Reduce the burst that Ice Mage + Elemental Shaman + Discipline Priest are able to put out!
This should help with reduceing the power of combos, such as the Ice Mage + Elemental Shaman + Warrior + Disc Priest + Paladin.
(It was to expected before, but now it is kind of official
)
The only other interesting change (as far as I am concerned) is that new alchemist trinkets are available!
If you keep mana potions on cd, you gain 960 mana every 2 minutes on average, which is about equal to 40 MP5 – and might start to get surpassed by Sunwell niveau loot. So they just threw 54 Spell Hit or 119 Bonus Healing on there (depending on your version of the trinket) to compensate! Nice!
Serpentshrine Priest Trinket

The “official” priest trinket gives a hint about what blizzard thinks priests should be:
The trinket gives two stats: Bonus healing and spirit. So, first off, obviously we are supposed to be deep holy specced (to make full use of the bonus heal, that would mean at least 40 points holy – at which point you should go for 41 points to take CoH).
Secondly, we are to make use of the spirit… Right now this requires a lot of coordination since you have to make full use of regen breaks and innervates. If however you manage that, it is actually better than Onyxias OP [Shard of the Scale]…So, why am I writing this?
Simply because I was thinking about 2.4 changes to spirit again:
[Pre 2.4]
0 Mana if you forget to use it…
411.5 Mana every 2 minutes during normal operation <=> 17.1 MP5
866.2 Mana every 2 minutes if you manage to use it during a full regeneretion pause <=> 36.1 MP5
4331 Mana every 2 minutes if you got a few druid slaves <=> 180.5 MP5
[Post 2.4]
0 Mana if you forget to use it…
686.5 Mana every 2 minutes during normal operation <=> 28.6 MP5
1445.3 Mana every 2 minutes if you manage to use it during a full regeneretion pause <=> 60.2 MP5
5781.2 Mana every 2 minutes if you got a few druid slaves <=> 240.9 MP5
*Whee* we gots a 30 MP5 + 66 heal trinket just for priests!
And noooo, the changes are not OP…
Possible Priest Buff!

Note: The following is not from any kind of patchnotes, but something the guys at mmo-champion pulled out of the game files, the PTR is not even up yet, so please take verything with a grain of salt!
Mana burns tooltip has been changed to change "Drains" into "Destroys". (Destroy 1021 to 1079 mana from a target. For each mana drained in this way, the target takes 0.5 Shadow damage.)
Power Infusion now reduce the mana cost of all spells by -20%. (Infuses the target with power, increasing spell casting speed by 20% and reducing the mana cost of all spells by -20%. Lasts 15 seconds.)
The first change might mean that mana burn will not be affected by the resilience changes after all! The resilience changes are after all about mana drains, so if blizzard goes to such lengths to make it clear that mana burn is not a drain, we might get a free ticket on that one! If this speculation (read it again: SPECULATION) turns out to be true, we would change from a disc/warlock/hunter nerf to a warlock/hunter nerf alone – and that would effectively be a quite powerful priest buff, especially if you consider that we discs stack our 500 resilience anyway!
The second change makes PI more powerful than even the current incarnation, because it essentially gives the same 20% dps increase for a 0% amount of increased mana cost (as it does now!) – but it now also increases the mana burned over a certain amount of time by 20%, again at a 0% increase in mana cost.
There might be a drawback to this though: It is possible that this incarnation of PI will not stack with heroism/bloodlust anymore.
Noobtag Inc!

Just while hanging out in Shattrath today, I noticed a posting in the trade channel which has become all to common on our server lately (translated from German):
The guild “Weisenrat” is still looking for members! All levels (even low-levels) and any class is welcome! Interested? /w me
To me, those guilds who will take anything and anyone without even looking, are doing a very important charity work: They are catalogueing all newbies on the server!
Anyone who runs around with a noobtag under their name can safely be qualified as newbie/extremely casual/just lacking in wow or social skills.
This might seem a very harsh qualification, but really, if you were any good at anything (or just not that much of a newbie
– nothing against newbies, but they start out at the very bottom of the social pool, if they do not have any mentors from RL) you would have a different tag under your name!
However: Damnit guys! (gals?) Why are you spamming the goddamn trade channel? Everyone who should be interested in your guild will be in the LOOKING FOR GUILD channel by default…
Ah, well… Since the people leading those guilds are noobtagged as well, they probably don’t know what the looking for guild channel is (they are not defaulted to it, since they are guilded…)

[Reckless Noble Topaz] and [Ember Skyfire Diamond] have been added to their respective places in the 2.4 Priest Gem Guide.
On a totally unrelated note:
Arena makes me an angry person. I want to hurt people…
(Well, only virtually, but still…)

Chastise no longer disorients the target, but now is instant cast and roots the target for 2 seconds. Focused Will now reduces damage by 2/3/4%, down from 1/3/5%. Power Infusion: Infuses the target with power, increasing their spell haste by 20% for 15 seconds.
Chastise was great against casters – now it is ok against meelees, if the root does its work well. Not to sure wether this is a buff or a nerf
.
The Focused Will changes are quite an obvious nerf – especially, since at three stacks this will amount to 3% more damage!
Well, the PI changes are a double edged sword: For one part, you now have to pay for the extra damage / healing you deal – in mana. On the other hand, you can now use it to increase the might of effects like mana burn or mana leech, which might give you an edge in a mana burn battle.
Fading Away

I was running the Underbog HC today on my shadow priest Radanoid.
Right before Ghaz’an, when we were rebuffing, for some reason, the Paladin decided that I should not keep my Blessing of Salvation. Well… Big mistake with any shadow… Just as bad I did not notice that change…
That is, right until my Omen threw a 90% warning. From then on I was hectically looking around what was wrong – I had not even really started my damage rotation, and our tank had not had these problems all the time before!
Well, I noticed the difference soon enough – and could have stopped, but decided to give my ego a boost, since the boss would die anyways *cough*. Omen was steadiely doing its climb (110%, 120%, 130%, *RED FLASHING SCREEN, BIG BOSS TURNING*) and miraculously a blessing of protection replaced the annoying Blessing of Wisdom.
While this was going on, our tank was saying something along those lines on the ts2: “You know that spell ‘fade’? It is only something holy priests use, but it reduces your aggro!”.
Ok, a shadow pulling aggro is not really something to write a blog post on ![]()
So, to get to what I wanted to talk about: Fade.

Fade Rank 7 Tooltip
Some people interprete this tooltip along those lines: “If you cast fade, your threat will be reduced.”
However, those people fail to miss one part of the tooltip: “[...]discouraging enemies from attacking you for 10 seconds[...]“
These 10 seconds do not mean, that anything you do for 10 seconds will be done with reduced aggro, but that after 10 seconds, you will regain any threat temporarily reduced!
This lead a WoW Wiki writer to the following conclusion, which I cannot phrase any better:
It is a common misconception that using Fade regularly will help lower a priests overall threat for the duration of an encounter.
And for those interested: Fade reduces threat by 1500 (rank 7) points. The aggro will return, as soon as you create any more threat after the buff ran out. (Or with other words: Your first attack after Fade has run out will create 1500 bonus threat!)
After so thoroughly demolishing Fade, are there any uses left for it?
Yes, there is one thing: If you overaggro and see yourself in the target of a mob, the temporare aggro reduce might help your warrior getting the enemy back easier, and in this way prevent your death – however, you will have to be more careful after that and if you keep dpsing through your fade, you can almost bet upon dieing as soon, as fade runs out…
Priest Enchant Guide updated

The priest enchant guide has been updated to correct a mistake, I had made with the 2.4 gem guide as well: I had forgotten to factor in Spirit of Redemption.
Again, there are no real implications (excepting only the post 2.4 wrist enchantment).

To my shame, I have to admit that I forgot the 5% increased Spirit from Spirit of Redemption in my previous calculations – the mistake (albeit slight, since it does not really make any difference to the choices) has been corrected.
Blizz, when do you realize that these Spirit Changes are way overpowered?!
Honestly…
The 5-Second Rule

Mana Regen Tooltip
If you play a priest – most especially a healer – you will at some point or another see a tooltip very similar to the above. Actually the image above is taken from Radanoid, my shadow priest, so do not be confused about the low numbers
.
The obvious question is: “What does ‘while casting’ mean?”
The answer to that is simple at the abstract level, but can get quite interesting when trying to use it to maximise one’s mana:
When a spell you casted consumes mana, your mana regeneration will be reduced for 5 seconds.
This definition means that you can constantly keep casting without losing your regeneration – as long as you do not let your spells go off.
Also, you should work to get extended periods of being outside the 5 second rule – more specifically, you should never break up your regen by throwing a SW:Pain if you do not have anything better to do…
A last tip: Use your freecast states, inner focus and maybe trinkets to escape activating the 5 second rule! (If you know that one heal will do the job for a few more seconds, just pop inner focus for that heal.)
